Top 5 Qualities of Successful (Online) Entrepreneurs

While here at eMoneyMakingOnline, we are given advice about making money specifically using online platforms, sometimes more general advice can be just as helpful. Online money makers, although a different breed from your traditional entrepreneur, still have and need the same personal qualities that all those who are driven to succeed require in order to make it big. Here are a few characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and how you can further improve on these qualities or develop them from the ground up if they are lacking.

1. Fearlessness of failure.

As good ol’ President Roosevelt so cogently put it, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.”

These words originally referred to the fear of foreign threat, but they can just as well apply to all entrepreneurs. The thing about any successful business is that it takes a while to really succeed, and you have to fail several times before that; sometimes you’ll even fail spectacularly. Those who aren’t phased by failure are the ones who make it big in the end.

So anytime you run into problems with your online business, take a deep breath, and find out how to approach the situation differently by learning from mistakes.

2. An ability to lead by working and communicating well with others.

Even though your business is conducted exclusively online, the world of the Web 2.0 is essentially assembled by people from all corners of the globe working together. In this respect, you’ll have to be just as much of a “people person” as you would if you were running your business completely offline.

The only difference is that your communication will mostly be in writing instead of in person, so be sure your writing skills are well-developed, polite, and free of jargon so that you can connect with and manage others on a more personable basis.

3. An ability to think outside the box.

Creative thinking skills are an absolute must for all entrepreneurs who hope of ever achieving any amount of success. This is especially true of online entrepreneurs. And why is that? It’s because in the world of online business, new ideas are popping up constantly, and what with the very informed and demanding Internet crowd, you’re idea will only stick if it truly offers some sort of unique value.

As such, don’t be afraid to dare to do something that no one has ever tried.

4. Occupying a happy medium between humility and confidence.

Entrepreneurs of all stripes have to be pretty aggressive types in order to get anywhere. At the same time, however, confidence can be taken too far. The ideal entrepreneur knows when to display a strong sense of confidence (when talking to capital investors for example), but is also high on the humility scale at all times (like when making sure to thank your blog readers and contributors for their time and interest).

5. Ample reserves of discipline and patience.

Just as my favorite 20th century inventor Thomas Edison once said, work is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.

Many people get into online businesses having dreams about easy money, getting rich quick, and working whenever and wherever they so choose. However, the fact of the matter is that the online entrepreneur requires just as much work ethic as the offline entrepreneur does. In fact, I would venture to say that as a potentially successful online entrepreneur, you’ll have to work that much harder considering the incredible speed by which the Internet facilitates conducting business.
