This article helps you on how to use keywords in your blog which directly or indirectly helps to achieve your blogging goal. In general, any blog post which targets a set of audience conveying an useful message always becomes a profitable blog post. In practical, finding out the audience and bringing them to your blog stands mainly on “how do you use keywords ?”

Keywords are the source of traffic. Keyword decides what your audience’s are about ? Also, Keyword plays a major role in marketing.

Any one could write useful blog posts but ultimately:

  • do the blog post brings you traffic ?
  • do the purpose of the blog post achieved ?

At most cases, SEO comes at the highest priority in making a successful blog. This is because search engines are the source of 100% free traffic. People seek information through search engines and when you are able to publish that “needful information”, you could drive targeted visitors.

Okay, lets see how do we use keywords in our blogs effectively ? These are the steps that I usually follow before publishing a blog post.

Finding Traffic Keywords.

As i said earlier, keywords are the source of traffic. The first step is finding those keywords which could drive traffic are called as “Traffic Keywords”. So you have to find those Traffic Keywords so that you could use it in your blog. There are lot of keyword research tools available in the market but still Google Keyword Planner is the best choice for me.

Generally, i do keyword analysis with “exact match” selected. This really tells the exact keyword’s volume search instead of looking into the “broad match” which gives results for wider keywords. Always use your own “Common Sense” in finding keywords.

Secondly, you can deeply explore the keyword using Semrush tool which gives more insights about the keyword and also, the sites that are already ranking for that keyword. This helps to deeply analyze the competition of your keyword and accordingly, you can use it.

You can also explore each and every page(esp. backlinks) that are already ranking on Google for your keyword.

Once the keywords are identified, generally i will also analyze the top 10 results of SERP using Semrush. If there are very less or no results showing your keyword then that’s the gold mine (you got Traffic Keywords).

Think yourself as the user with a problem and think how do you search Internet to find information. This helps you to find those traffic keywords.

How To Use Keywords ?

Now the question is, once you got those Traffic Keywords how to use them ? There are no magic’s or hidden secret involved in using keywords. Its all about where you are placing the keyword and the density.

  • First, write useful information satisfying the visitors.
  • Use the keyword in the very beginning of Title.
  • Use the keyword in the first paragraph.
  • Shall use the keyword in the sub-title of the blog post.
  • Use the keyword in the last paragraph.
  • Of course, use the keyword in the body too.
  • Keep the density somewhere between 2-5% (Shall use texanalyzer to measure it) – generally i don’t bother about these stuffs, let it become natural…

Important: Don’t always write articles to stuff keywords instead “convey the message naturally” and you will “use keywords naturally”.

There are no specific intention to use keywords “here and there” instead, it should come naturally. At the same time, pay attention that you are using the right targeted keywords.

Keyword Variations…

Secondly, you could show “keyword variations”.

That means, use variety of related keywords. A simple example is using keywords between Singular & Plural.

  • The advantage of showing keyword variation is that you could easily bring in traffic for related keywords.

Generally, people search using keywords in varying combination’s. As an example, few people may search in singular and others may search in plural. So the idea is showing keyword variations and attracting more traffic. Also, the reader may not feel that you have used the same keyword again and again.

And it comes like naturally written, pretty good article.

Links Vs Keywords.

Links (a tags) plays a major role in keyword optimization. Generally, using the exact keyword or the variation of keyword in the anchor text works well. It also adds weight-age on where the link appears in the web page.

The top it appears more the better results. If you have not tried this before, try it.

  • Just link your best article from the top bar with the exact keyword you want to rank your blog (keyword and blog post should be relevant). You could see your blog ranks up in SERP for that keyword. This is quite natural and in fact, helps the visitors to quickly find their required information from your blog.

Traffic Vs Conversion Strategy.

Keywords are the source of traffic and traffic is the source of money.

This the basic reaction with blogging. Without right keywords, you could not get more traffic and without traffic, you could not make money. Also, it depends on the profitability of keyword. For example, if the keyword has the word “review” then its highly profitable keyword which converts better.

So it is important to decide the purpose of your blog or the blog post first. This way, you could exactly figure out the keywords which tells the purpose.

Conversion (your goal) out of the keyword depends on two factors:

  • the volume of traffic you get from keywords (now called as “Profitable Traffic Keywords”)
  • the conversion strategy employed.

When you want to sell some product to the visitors, then your keyword should be in-sync with content. Keyword and content relevancy matters for conversion. It never works, when you use the best keyword in the title and written something unrelated in the body. Keyword and content should be in-sync and relevant.

Generally, when you want to make sales, just “tell the problem” then show the “product as solution”. It works better.

At the same time, when you are looking to increase PPC Ads income (like Google Adsense), you don’t need to much bother about convincing the readers. Just make them to roam and click around your web page is enough.
